Vaughn Middle School Solar – Powering Washoe County Education
Simple Power built this 185 kW DC (160 kW AC) rooftop system for Vaughn Middle School, part of the Washoe County School District in Reno, NV. The system spans three separate roof sections with 340 JA Solar 545W panels paired with SolarEdge power optimizers on each module and two SolarEdge 80kW three-phase inverters, giving the school panel-level production visibility. Racking uses IronRidge XR-1000 rails on an aluminum support structure engineered for the campus’s 130 mph wind zone and 30 PSF snow load, tying into the existing 3000A switchgear through a new 400A solar panel board and disconnect for a clean, self-contained system that’s easy for facilities staff to run.
